Giuseppe Antonio Ferrandes began working as a noncommissioned officer to later realize that his attitude was to work as a farmer. He resigned and for over twenty-two years worked as a grafter at the municipal greenhouse on the island of Pantelleria, and did not enlist as the island’s firefighter.
He learns the art of grafting from his father-in-law and perfects thetechnique from the older workers who worked at the nursery, becoming in fact the last outpost of this knowledge.
During the video interview he reveals the grafting and pruning techniques, and reveals the enormous care and dedication that the cultivation of alberello vines requires.
